By God's Grace, I am what I am

First of all, let me start by saying "God Bless our pastor!" The sermon at church this week was wonderful, and I think it hit home for many. We have been doing a church study on 1 Corinthians. This week focused on 1 Cor. 15. As a person who has a bad habit of comparing herself to other Christians the message was particularly sweet. I am sure I am not the only one. Anyway, here is a link to our church website. Once they get the sermon posted I will try to remember to put up a link for that...

A weekend of picnics

We had a busy and fun weekend filled with picnics! The first picnic was on Saturday, a 50th Anniversary Celebration for WL GORE (Jake's work). They put on a pretty good event - a band, carnival, and lots of food tents. Micah loved the carnival. He rode the Ferris Wheel with me, the Super Slide (over and over again) with Daddy, and the spinning strawberry. We were all dizzy after that one!

Our church had a picnic at a nearby park after church on Sunday. It was really fun -- they grilled burgers and fries and the congregation brought sides and dessert. In true church picnic form, there was a TON of yummy food. Micah and Caden both enjoyed playing in the park after eating - Caden in the swing and Micah testing out all of the slides. When it was time to go Micah's tiredness set in and we had a nice tantrum to listen to on the way home. I mean, how could we make him leave those slides and cookies!? At least that is what he thought ;-). Caden was also exhausted, falling asleep in the car and then proceeding to sleep until almost 5pm once we were home.

Some pictures from June 2008

The newest letter game in the Goble household...

So, after about 2 years (maybe more) of nearly non-stop letter play by Micah, one would think that he would either be bored or have simply run out of ideas for new letter games. Oh no, not Micah! He is serious about letters and I am starting to wonder if he will ever actually phase out of this letter obssession. Will he become an english major in college? Will he teach young elementary school children their ABCs and phonics? Will he write a best seller or master numerous languages? Who knows, but whatever happens, he continues to give Jake and I endless enjoyment and certainly a few good giggles as we watch him play and learn. His latest game is equally entertaining as he runs around the house, finds words, and then spells them out with his letter blocks. Here is a picture of "hi temp," whose inspiration this morning was words found on the dishwasher (for $500, Alex)...

Hehe, maybe he will become a dishwasher repairman!?

Coodies!

The Goble-house is now coming up on a week of a gross stomach bug! Caden had it first -- in fact, I think I can tell you the exact moment he contracted this awful bug, whatever it may be. We were shopping at Target. We had a few different places to errand so in my haste and laziness I skipped the floppy (shopping cart cover), leaving it in the car, and just tossed Caden into the shopping cart seat. About three seconds later I saw Caden lean forward and wrap his mouth around the cart handle. AHHHH! Quite frankly, it doesn't matter how fast you remove his mouth at this point, what's done is done. Three to four days later, BOOM, Caden is losing his appetite and the puking begins. Let it be known that Caden has a terribly sensitive stomach on a normal basis, so he does not handle these bugs very well. Micah, on the other hand, has an ironclad tummy. Micah woke up with the bug at about 2:30am Sunday (three to four days after Caden became ill) puking in bed (poor guy!). Fortunately, he is getting over the whole thing much faster than Caden did and has only thrown-up the one time -- again, ironclad tummy. His appetite has been pretty poor though. Caden is finally getting his appetite back and has become hunger crazed, though he can only eat small amounts at a time. Fortunately, no emergency doctor trips have been needed. Both boys have been virtually fever-less and have been able to stay hydrated. Outside of those two things there isn't much a doc can do for a virus.

There is a popular email forward, I have received it many times, that talks about being a parent (a mother in particular). One portion of the forward describes perils a parent endures... being puked on, pooped on, pee-d on, etc. Nothing could be more true. As a parent you really do become one with bodily fluids. If you are wienie in this area, you might as well give it up and get over it. Jake and I have certainly had an opportunity to discuss this (a few times!) in the last week. We laugh though, well maybe just me, because during this last sick episode Jake seems to be wearing a big giant bullseye. The kids can be doing just fine with me, but the moment Jake picks them up or sits down with Caden for a bottle feeding, BLAH! I think he has changed clothes and showered more this week than in the last month.

Oh, and here's a little side-story for you... While changing one of Micah's glorious diapers (his tummy may be ironclad, but his intestines are not quite so solid) he decides to spell "poo-poo" for me. This may sound like odd entertainment to you, but Micah is very much into spelling words right now. Anyway, he goes, "D-O-O-K-I-E spells poo-poo!" Thanks a lot, Daddy! ;-)

As for Jake and I, we are doing pretty well considering. I did get hit with a heavy head and some nausea for most of Sunday (what a wonderful Father's Day for Jake -- we'll have to make it up to him!), but that seems to be all I am going to have. Jake came home from work last night with a fever, but woke up feeling much better this morning and is back to work. I made him promise me that he would come home right away if he started to feel ill again -- nobody at work needs to experience this joy or spread it to their families!

Anyway, prayers would sure be appreciated as we all make it through that last few days of this! Hopefully I didn't gross too many people out - I tried to contain most of the details.

Paint & Curtains!

With my mom in town to help, the painting and curtain hanging began last Thursday night and went through Saturday afternoon. The curtains and fabric to make the matching valances were a combination birthday and mother's day gift for me and I am so thrilled with the way they look! Thus far we have painted the wall in our eat-in area and the wall that holds our sliding door and fire place, etc. We still have a lot of painting to do in the house (A LOT!), but just a little bit goes a long way to motivating us to finish painting the house and to get rid of the WHITE WHITE WHITE walls that we dislike so much. The neutral color we chose to run throughout most of the house is called Nutmeg Frost. We are planning to put a red (of some sort) accent wall in our kitchen. We are also planning to run the neutral color into our bedroom, with some sort of accent in our adjoining master bath (or possibly visa versa)... who knows when it will all actually be completed, but it is exciting to plan!

Here are some pics of our work in the eat-in and family room...

If you look at the corner on the right side of the photo you can see the difference between the new color and the white wall.

The lighting is funny on the pic, I will try to post a new one soon...

This is where we plan to paint the red accent wall, so no paint here yet, but I posted the pic to show off my kitchen valance.
